Department of Visual and Performing Arts

When students engage in the arts, they can experience the joy, exhilaration and thrill of creative accomplishment as creators or members of an audience. Those experiences, which involve emotions, reveal connections and spark insights, expand students’ knowledge and create a lifelong love and appreciation for the arts.”

This is a year-round Visual and Performing Arts Program serving the cultural needs of a diverse Camden County community that is irrespective of all ages, interests, abilities and income levels.  Studies conducted in the work place and educational institutions, found that students exposed to training in the visual and performing arts are inclined to connect more successfully with other areas of study and develop skills and attitudes more desirable in the employment world and institutions of higher learning.  These transferable areas include but are not limited to self-discipline, problem solving, attention to detail and communication/presentation.

Mini Doodlers- for children 3 years to Kindergarten our Minis gleefully create their own masterpieces  at Abrakadoodle where classes are the perfect social, learning and school-readiness experience. Our Minis also use a wide variety of materials on projects that are developmentally appropriate to ensure each child’s safety and success.   This class is an exploration of color, shape, texture and more.

Doodlers– for children grades 1 to 8 our Doodlers continue to learn and refine their skills using a variety of wonderful tools and materials. Each lesson focuses on a specific technique and/or artistic style. Both contemporary and master artists are featured to inspire our Doodlers and introduce them to a broad overview of the artistic world. In this class students will cartoon, use a number of different paints, create 3-D with modeling compounds, and more.

Art students discover a very precious part of themselves. They will develop their capacities to weigh meanings and make evaluations without judgment.  Learning about the visual arts gives children a window into the rich and interesting world around them, about their own history and culture, as well as other cultures.
